At the start of the Covid-19 lockdown and with just one hour’s exercise a day, children were trying to spot rainbows and teddy bears in windows on their daily walks. I decided to do something slightly different and started painting native British species to show just how beautiful our wildlife is and I gradually filled up our front window. It was lovely to hear the excited voices of young children in the street as they spotted something new. Over the summer I had three different full sets of windows and one epic painting with all twelve panes filled with humpback whales.
When the lockdown was eased it was time for the paintings to come down but for one week only in September to coincide with a local Art Show I put some pictures back up. This time I made one exception to my native species rule as I had found an extraordinary and exquisite non-native nymph shield beetle in my garden which looks like a Star Wars monster (according to my husband). |
Prints and cards and original paintings of animals (2020 & 2021) are for sale.

I experimented with doing one large painting to fill the entire window but the passing children didn't find this as entertaining... These are Humpback Whales which migrate past the West Coast of Ireland. I have never seen them in UK waters but I am lucky enough have seen them on a scuba trip in the Pacific. They are awe-inspiring and wonderful and you can hear their calls underwater. An unforgettable experience. |
