My trip to French Polynesia in May and June 2017 stands out for the incredible range of fabulous blues in the ocean, the lagoons and the sky. I did a few sketches while there and have since produced some larger artworks capturing the intensity of the colour. The water was crystal clear so you could see a long way down into the depths from the surface. The marine life was prolific and awe-inspiring while the Pacific Ocean outside the atolls remained terrifyingly powerful with fierce and treacherous currents. A  memorable trip.

In October 2016 I travelled to Guadalupe Island in the Pacific Ocean about 300 miles off Mexico to dive with great white sharks. They congregate here to hunt elephant seals arriving for their annual mating season. Great whites are critically endangered with only about 10,000 left in the world and their reputation as man eaters is misplaced. Marine scientists are trying to learn as much as possible about their complex lives before they disappear. I felt very privileged to get up close to these majestic creatures.
